The province of Ilocos Sur was the most devastated province in Region 1 during the onslaught of Typhoon Egay in July 2023. Many municipalities were submerged in mud and water brought by the said typhoon, and many houses were damaged.

As additional assistance in their recovery, 9,360 affected families and individuals will receive an Emergency Cash Transfer (ECT) on 23-26 August 2023 from the Department.

The said assistance is for those who have recorded partially and totally damaged houses in the province.

The DSWD FO 1 previously provided relief augmentation to the affected cities and municipalities as disaster response in the province. A total of 104,106 Food and Non-Food Items were given as immediate and additional responses while a total amount of PhP110,228,500.00 financial assistance were provided to 46,418 beneficiaries.

The Department is now in the early recovery and rehabilitation stage which focuses on the programs and services that provide family and community rehabilitation and recovery.

The ECT is a DSWD program that provides unconditional cash assistance to families and individuals affected by calamities to further help them recover from the ravages of the typhoon that destroyed their homes and also their livelihoods.
