The Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth (RRCY) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development – Field Office I staged Mr. Valentine’s 2017 pageant with 14 RRCY residents as contestants in celebration of the love month.
The said event showcased the resourcefulness of the resident-clients of RRCY by producing a creative costume for each participant.
“Sa amin dito sa RRCY, ginawa namin itong event na ito to make these children feel ‘yung importance nila at the same time ma-develop yung kanilang kakayanan, so nakita naman natin yung mga output nila, yung creativity nila. Iyon ang gusto naming i-develop sa kanila (Here in RRCY, we conducted this event to make these children (RRCY resident-clients) feel their importance at the same time to develop their skills and creativity)”, said RRCY Head Fe G. Sarmiento in an interview.
The contenders for Mr. Valentine’s 2017 not only exhibited their creative costumes made by their fellow residents but also gamely showed their talents in singing and dancing.
Aside from the friendly contest, the RRCY staff also organized the competition on solo singing, ‘doble-kara’ or double-faced acting, and group dancing.
The fun-packed activities in the Center were appreciated by the residents as well as their families who attended the said occasion. “Sobrang saya po kapag may mga ganitong okasyon, halos lahat po ng programa dito ay sinasalihan ko para na rin sa aking mga magulang upang masiyahan sila sa aking ginagawa ngayon (It is fun when there are events here in RRCY, I am joining almost all of the programs of RRCY so that my parents would be happy in what I’m doing right now)”, said Mr. Valentine’s 2017 winner.
