For the first time, the National Household Targeting Unit (NHTU) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development – Field Office I (DSWD-FOI) conducted a photo contest on the ongoing 2nd Round of Household Assessment last 17 June 2015 at Sitio Laclac, Barangay San Roque, San Manuel, Pangasinan.

The photo contest is a region-wide activity that involved the deployment of photographers in the field to take photos of the actual enumeration of NHTU Field Support Staff such as the Area Coordinator, Area Supervisors and Enumerators. The photographers were accompanied by NHTU Head Glynnis S. Casuga and three (3) Information Officers from Social Marketing Unit (SMU) of DSWD-FOI to ensure that the activity will not disrupt the assessment or influence its outcome.

The activity aimed to promote transparency, acquire support, and raise the awareness and understanding of the general public on the processes involved in identifying the poor.

“Taking pictures of poor households is new to me. I’m happy and blessed because the activity gave me the chance to see and experience the dedication of the field workers in reaching the households to gather information even in the mountainous area”, Ramil Maullion Jr., an event and fashion photographer, said.

Photos taken are now uploaded on the DWSD Ilocandia Facebook Page where viewers can like and share the pictures as part of the 10% weight in the criteria for judging. The top 3 winners shall receive a cash prize of Php.10,000 (1st prize), Php.7,000 (2nd prize) and Php.5,000 (3rd prize).

In addition, the output of the regional 1st placer of this photo contest will be showcased in an exhibit during the National Launching of the 2nd Listahanan Database of Poor Families tentatively scheduled in October this year.
