At least 13,180 needy schoolers will be given Php 600.00 each in San Fernando City as one-time assistance from Department of Social Welfare and Development.

‘It shall serve its purpose as additional allowance for the children’s school needs timely for the opening of classes,’ Director Marcelo Nicomedes J. Castillo emphasized in an interview.

This initiative of the DSWD and the City School Division of San Fernando City will prioritize the beneficiaries of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program and those in the database of the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction or LISTAHANAN.

To facilitate the process, the the City School Division of San Fernando City was tasked to identify needy students who are enrolling for this school semester. As such, the parents were asked to submit Identification Cards or Barangay Certification that they are bonafide residents of their barangays.

The schools on the other hand have to certify that these children have enrolled for School Year 2014-2015.

The assistance will be given in cash in a schedule to be arranged by DSWD to the concerned schools in San Fernando City, La Union.

This undertaking is chargeable against the Expanded Assistance for Individuals in Crisis Situation of the DSWD. (by: Iryn D. Cubangbang, Information Officer II)
