At least 600 Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries are now indulged in their own micro lending activities through savings of their Self Help Groups (SHeGs).
Capitalizing on own group savings, an average amount of Php 42,000.00 and above is earned by every SHeG with a Php 20.00 weekly contribution for a year.
Introduced by Panangaro Foundation and supported by Head Social Worker Jowey Celso (with SHeG exposure in India), groups of men and women with 20-30 members were organized into Self Help Groups (SHeG) to maximize potentials of saving money and provide for immediate needs of members through microfinance.
As an adopted strategy, strict book keeping, revolving keeper of money placed in a box and another key keeper; SHeGs are able to survive on their own with less supervision.
As observed by Mr. Celso, the SHeG is now seen as a strategy to empower the beneficiaries to manage their own savings and practice leadership in pushing the goals of each group.
These SHeGs will continue to prosper with their built in trust and cooperation and with continuous monitoring from Mr. Celso and Rozelle Arig, a municipal staff.
Men’s Group now SHEG
After a year of organized women groups, at least 50 fathers became interested in SHeG and were also grouped into SHeG at Barangay Carot, Anda, Pangasinan.
With saving of at least Php 28,000.00, this project now will enable them to purchase 20 sacks of rice or half cavan of rice for each family with weekly contribution of Php 70.00 for 10 weeks.
With SHeG, most of the fathers now realized that saving a small amount of money matters if it is done as a group and there is a focused project based on a prioritized need.
‘Pinapahalagahan namin ang bawat naipon para makatulong din kami sa iba’ (We value our savings so that we could also help other needy), said Larry Carlit (member).
More importantly, the values formation and reorientation being conducted will continue to fuel good traits of leadership and trust among the members.
Future Goals
With seen good results, the LGU of Anda will organize more SHeGs to saturate all Pantawid beneficiaries in Anda, Pangasinan.
Also, with continuous access to regional line agencies, they will also work out with DOLE Nego Cart aside from DSWD’s capital assistance.
