DSWD – FO1 headed by Dir. Marcelo Nicomedes J. Castillo joined in the observance of  the National Tree Planting Day spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Pugo, La Union on June 12, 2013.

The said event is in compliance to RA 10176 or the Arbor Day Act of 2012 and strengthen the National Greening Program of the government.

The Barangay Forest Program was also launched with the theme “Kalayaan: 2013 Ambagan Tungo sa Malawakang Kaunlaran”. A program mandating LGUs to establish their own nurseries and produce seedlings for planting within their respective area of responsibility.

Barangays Ambangonan, Ambalite, Cares and Palina were among the chosen sites for the activity. Among the present agencies, DSWD preferred Barangay Cares from which narra trees were planted.

Other agencies include BJMP, BFP, DILG, NEDA, PRC, BOT, NCIP, DBM, PIA and the LGU of Pugo. (by: Allan O. Lulu / Information Officer II, Pantawid Pamilya)
