Santa, Ilocos Sur – Sixty (60) families who were once typhoon victims received  ‘Certificate of Occupancy’ as proof of ownership of a ‘core shelter unit’  given by DSWD in partnership with Local Government Unit of Santa, Ilocos Sur.

Graced by Director Marcelo Nicomedes J. Castillo and Mayor Jeremy Bueno, the awarding ceremony was held at Brgy. Pasungol, Santa, Ilocos Sur where the core shelter units were established.

For the Core Shelter Assistance Program (CSAP) in this town, DSWD released  Php 4.2 million for the construction materials while the LGU-Santa augmented a 782 square meter- lot for the 60 units, including water system and electrification.

Dir. Castillo lauded the cooperation shown by the beneficiaries in their speedy recovery and rehabilitation through the DSWD’s CSAP. “A new community has risen. This safer ground is now your new home  with your family and  children,” Director Castillo  further mentioned. Taking  good care of the core shelter  units  by improving the surrounding was also encouraged  by Director Castillo.

As the owners of the core shelter units, Mayor Jeremy Bueno warned them not to engage in unpleasant activities like misuse of their abodes. Converged efforts of DSWD, LGU Santa and other private organizations were also recognized.

Rosita Corpuz, 85 year old- beneficiary  awarded with certificate of occupancy  was teary-eyed thanking DSWD for the assistance. “Gapu iti daytoy a tulong naiyadayo kamin iti baybay. Haan kamin nga agkatang katang  nga umakar  iti rabii nu kasdiay nga adda bagyo.” (With this help, we are safer from the raging sea, we will no longer be anxious for a safer place whenever typhoon comes).  (by: Iryn D.
