Several communities in Region 1 have already experienced the impact of Typhoon ‘Carina’ as it gains strength moving northward.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 1 (DSWD FO 1) received reports that four (4) Local Government Units in Ilocos Norte were affected by the continuous rain, resulting in flooding that affected a total of 85 families with 325 individuals in Burgos, San Nicolas, Solsona, and Vintar.

Due to proactive planning and disaster preparedness of the affected LGUs, swift responses have been initiated to assist the affected population in need.

DSWD FO 1 is ready to provide support as needed. By pre-positioning and maintaining 67,106 food and non-food items, which amounts to PhP83,495,090.95, in 19 strategic DSWD regional and satellite warehouses across the region, to ensure that affected families will receive timely assistance and relief in case of necessity.

DSWD and LGUs are working hand in hand to address the situation and meet the community’s needs.

The agency emphasizes that LGUs must report all affected families regardless of status to DSWD using the Disaster Response Operations Management, Information, and Communication (DROMIC) report template. In the event that assistance is needed for the reported affected families, the LGU and DSWD will then identify the beneficiaries based on the qualifications and requirements of the program to be provided.

The situation is being closely monitored as the LGUs and the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council 1 work together to address the immediate needs of the affected residents and prevent any further impact from ‘Carina’.
