SAN JUAN, LA UNION | Following the Super Typhoon Egay’s devastating impact in the community of San Juan, La Union, the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 1 (DSWD FO 1) has taken a significant step in aiding the needs of the affected families.

Through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed with the Local Government Unit of San Juan, La Union, a Cash for Work program replicating the Risk Resiliency Program through Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation has been initiated to provide assistance to the poor and vulnerable families to capacitate and strengthen their adaptive capacity supporting the aftermath of the Super Typhoon Egay.

Under the established partnership, 1,142 target and eligible beneficiaries will be engaged for 10 days of various community-based activities in rebuilding and rehabilitating interventions focused on food security and water sufficiency. After the 10 days of work, each beneficiary will receive PhP4,000.00, from the PhP400.00 per day computation based on the submitted guidelines from the DSWD Central Office.

Mayor Arturo P. Valdriz expressed his gratitude for the collaborative partnership with DSWD, emphasizing the importance of collective actions in times of crisis. Likewise, DSWD Field Office 1 Regional Director Marie Angela S. Gopalan lauded the proactive approach taken by the LGU of San Juan, La Union in initiating the partnership.

The implementation of the Cash for Work program is set to commence immediately prioritizing the most vulnerable and marginalized residents of the Municipality.
