Due to the ongoing conflict between countries in the Middle East, many Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) have chosen to return home to ensure their safety. Among those repatriated are seven OFWs from the Ilocos Region, six of whom are from different municipalities and cities in Pangasinan (San Carlos City, Malasiqui, Alcala, Sta. Barbara, Mangaldan, and Pozorrubio) and one from Tagudin, Ilocos Sur.

To help them transition back to life, the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 1 – Ilocos Region (DSWD FO 1) has mobilized efforts to provide immediate and long-term support for the repatriated individuals.

To date, two OFWs from Pangasinan have already received financial assistance through the Assistance to Individuals In Crisis Situations (AICS) program amounting to PhP10,000.00 each. Both are also under close monitoring and have been referred to the respective local government units (LGUs) of Alcala and Pozorrubio for further support.

Four more OFWs from San Carlos City, Sta. Barbara, Mangaldan, and Tagudin are being assisted by social workers in completing the required documentation, interviews, and assessments. Once they complete the requirements, appropriate assistance based on their needs such as food, burial, and medical assistance will be extended.

Meanwhile, efforts are still ongoing to contact the remaining OFW from Malasiqui. DSWD FO 1 is actively coordinating with the Local Social Welfare and Development Office (LSWDO) in the area to locate and reach the concerned individual.

Monitoring of all seven cases continues, as DSWD FO 1 works closely with the LSWDOs to ensure that each returning OFW receives the appropriate assistance. (by: JC-Angelyn D. Eugenio, Information Officer I, Social Marketing Unit)
