Although Super Typhoon “Carina” has exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), persistent rains brought by the southwest monsoon or locally known as Habagat have kept the region in a state of concern. This led to a significant increase in the number of families affected.

To date, 81 Local Government Units (LGUs) with a total of 74,427 families, equivalent to 286,294 individuals across Region 1 are experiencing the adverse effects of the continuous downpour.

Currently, 529 families are inside the 55 active evacuation centers in the region; while 6,814 families comprising 22,789 individuals, are staying with relatives.

The severe weather has inflicted significant damage to housing, with four (4) homes reported as completely damaged and 77 others assessed partially damaged.

In response to the escalating needs, the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 1 (DSWD FO 1) has swiftly responded, distributing a total of 16,121 Family Food Packs and 281 Non-Food Items amounting to PhP12,060,517.20.

Included in the overall relief efforts, the municipality of Bauang, La Union, which has declared a State of Calamity today, has initially provided 300 Family Food packs along with 73 hygiene kits and 73 sleeping kits for families currently residing in evacuation centers.

Rain or shine, DSWD FO 1 provides swift assistance with a heart to Super Typhoon Carina affected families

In light of the extensive damage and displacement caused by the weather conditions, the agency urges all to stay informed, seek assistance, and inform the Barangay Local Government Unit as necessary.

In these challenging times, DSWD emphasizes the importance of collaboration among various agencies and community stakeholders to achieve a greater impact. By working together, we can enhance our response efforts and better support those affected by the ongoing crisis. By: Nicole Kasandra A.
