The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 1 (DSWD FO 1) reaffirms its unwavering commitment to assisting families affected by Super Typhoon “Carina.” The agency is working around the clock, including on weekends, to provide essential aid and relief to those in need.
Regional Director Marie Angela S. Gopalan personally visited the affected communities in Aringay, La Union, where she facilitated and supervised the distribution of Family Food Packs. The Director’s presence underscored the agency’s dedication in providing immediate support and ensuring that assistance reaches the families most in need.
Today, DSWD FO 1 has tripled its effort by distributing an additional 6,396 food and non-food items to the most affected Local Government Units (LGUs), including Bauang and Luna, La Union, as well as Dagupan City in Pangasinan. To date, a total of 22,478 FFPs and 319 non-food items have been provided to the requesting LGUs in the region, with the total assistance amounting to PhP17,256,043.68.
Amelia Gonzales Ayson, a solo parent and fish cage caretaker from Sitio Talaib, Barangay Carael, Dagupan City, shared her gratitude, “Ang family food packs na ito ay malaking tulong para sa pangangailangan ng aking anak at apo. Dahil naapektuhan ang aming pangkabuhayan sa nakalipas na bagyo na sinabayan pa ng baha (These family food packs are a huge help for the needs of my child and grandchild, as our livelihood was affected by the recent storm and subsequent flooding.)”
The total number of affected families in the region has now increased to 96,876 families, with 377,014 individuals. In response to the escalating situation, DSWD FO 1 Incident Management Team is continuously conducting comprehensive coordination meetings across Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur, and Ilocos Norte; that aims to review and strategize the ongoing relief efforts, ensuring effective aid distribution, and addressing the evolving needs of the affected families.
DSWD FO 1 remains dedicated to providing timely and effective support to these communities, working tirelessly to alleviate immediate needs and support to early recovery. By: Nicole Kasandra A. Lipawen, Information Officer II – Disaster Response Management Division
