Quirino, Ilocos Sur – The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 1 continues to disseminate its programs and services through its DSWD Information / Serbisyo Caravan.
Eager to bring its program services closer to the people, DSWD held its caravan at Brgy. Patiacan, Quirino, Ilocos Sur on 22 Ocotober 2019. The community warmly welcomed the DSWD staff through singing of their own song composition thanking the Department for choosing their barangay to conduct the said caravan.
Various activities were held including medical mission spearheaded by Dr. Allan Alejandro Sevilla II of Quirino, Ilocos Sur Primary Health Care Facility together with DSWD Human Resource Welfare staff. Social Welfare Officers from Provincial Operations Office Ilocos Sur assessed and served 119 Assistance in Crisis Situation beneficiaries who received a total of PhP371,000.00 for medical assistance, food subsidy, among others. Medicines and vitamins were provided to 116 beneficiaries. The services include basic health and prenatal check-up. In addition, 200 family food packs and malong were distributed to food-for-work beneficiaries.
During the caravan, Regional Information Officer Darwin Chan discussed updates on DSWD’s programs and services, and explained that DSWD is not directly connected to Local Government Unit P/C/MSWDO because of the devolution under RA 7160 or the Local Government Code. P/C/MSWDO has different parameter in providing programs and services compared to DSWD. If the client needs cannot be fully met by the P/C/MSWDO, they maybe referred to DSWD for augmentation.
