tree planting_ndcmAt least 500 tree seedlings were planted by DSWD staff and inter-agency partners at Dallangayan, San Fernando City, La Union near the Material Recovery Facility, recently, to protect the whole community from landslide and to promote a healthier environment.

Supported by San Fernando City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), the event marks another strategy to realize the goals of the National Disaster Consciousness Month with theme ‘Kaligtasan ng Pamayanan, Pundasyon ng Kaunlaran.

The tree planting is an initial partnership of DSWD and San Fernando City – CENRO, of which, one (1) hectare of the area will be adopted and preserved to decrease its vulnerability from hazards and increase resiliency and preparedness among the families.

According to Maricel Caleja, DSWD –Disaster Management Focal Person, the tree planting will be followed by an orientation on disaster management to increase capacity of families to respond to any eventualities as well as mitigate hazards and risks to lives.
